Hi Sudip,

Your question is easy to read but broad in scope.

1. Given a scenario, are you going to implement the limitation on one workstation only or all of the workstations.

2. Is it peer to peer network?

3. Are the workstations belongs to a domain?

4. Or novell netware is in use?

5. Do all the users of the workstation has access to the internet?

Considering all those, the solution to your problem varied as well.

A simple solution is to make the workstation users belong to Power User Group and then using GPEDIT.MSC limit their access from there.

If they are part of the domain, then you can create a policy that applies to all Domain Users except Domain Admins.

If they are peer to peer with or without Novell you have to setup the policy one by one on each workstation involve.

If all workstations has access to internet, for added security asside from hardware firewall you have to rename the built-in administrator account and disable that. Then create another administrator account with a common password (to simplify management)

This is some considerations I have in mind in interpreting your question.

I asked this question for one of my very different (

) clients, who will use only single computer with different users. He doesn't want to let users other than administrator (which will be my client himself) change date. He thinks in that case his staffs may modify some old invoices

That program was developed with another software tool (not harbour/xharbour based).
I got some answers from net:

Code: Select all

1.) The Effective And Easy Way Is
Just Follow The Instructions :
*Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Settings > User
Rights Assignment > *
Here On This Point You Would Find The Policy " *Change The System Time* "
Here You Can Assign The Right To Any User You Like
To Change The System Time.
You Can Assign The Right To Change The System Time By Adding Or Removeing
The Existing Users

2.) To Access The Group Policy Just Type The "gpedit.msc" In Run Window
*Start > Run > gpedit.msc* Then Press Enter
*Group Policy > Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Securit**y
Settings > Local Policies > User Rights Assignment*
Here In This Point You Would Find The Entry " *Change The System Time* "
Here you Can Also Assing The Right To Change The System Time To A User

3.)
Or Use This Setting But *Carefully *Because This Setting Is Gonna Disable
The Control Panel.
If You Want To Restrict The Users To Access The Control panel.
After Applying This Policy The User Won't Be Able To Access Any Of The
System Settings.

*Group Policy > User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control
Panel > *
Here In The Policy Section Set The Value For *Disable Control Panel Enabled
Or Double Click On The Disable Control Panel Policy And Choose The Enabled
Options And
press The Apply Button The OK
Disable Control Panel = Enabled

I also got some instructions using REGEDIT also

(which I don't want to recommend)

But, the bottom line is that, you can't resist your users easily from tampering .dbf (not encoded) files!!!

Third reason to use NETIO: you don't have to share your dbf's folder, so
nobody can open your dbfs with excel or other program than yours.
Big security improvement !

I agree with you. Some times "limitation" helps us to overcome it

I tried with LetoDB a few months ago and found problems. I am sure this type of problem will not occur with netio

I shall test it very soon. (There is a long list which I shall test very soon

And most urgent thing I have to do is good "time mangement"

)

You know it! Now I am a single watched person.

Again, I have to run for my bread and butter .... support old programs and engaged in marketing (yes, I am a one man army!!!).
I just tested it. It works fine. But found problem with net test version viewtopic.php?f=5&t=913&start=26
