Please give me the info, which program fits yours needs as a viewer of DBF file.
I'm used to NortonCommander & DBView combo from the old DOS, and I'm looking for something similar for Windows:
- capaple to associate with DBF file,
- lightweight,
- quick,
- simple
- informative,
- safe = without edit/append/delete/restructure/create/zap capabilities,
- freeware if possible.

DBFNavigator is a Windows utility for viewing and editing DBF files. (No index)
http://www.alxsoft.narod.ru/ENG/dbfnav.htm
Opportunities of the program:
- versions from dBase up to Visual FoxPro are supported;
- may read memo fields dBase and FoxPro formats;
- are supported OEM and ANSI codings;
- sort;
- filter;
- search;
- a seal.
The program does not use external drivers for access to databases (for example ODBC, BDE, MS Jet) additional libraries (dll, ocx).
It's free !
Saludos !

Yes, I use this utility, is OK. The only one drawback I see in the version 3.12.1 - the name of the database is displayed in 8.3 manner...
Example: my_database.dbf ==>> my_data~.dbf

Prometheus is very popular name in the internet, so I cannot spot the proper site

. Any hint?

This is for fitting file name(s) in browse header, when you open multiple table at a time.
You can see full file name (including its path) of active table in status bar.
