Anybody has an idea why Harbour is not listed in TIOBE index

Post by dhaine_adp »

Hello all,

I'm just wondering why Harbour is not listed in TIOBE index or maybe I should post this question to Harbour forum.
Please see this link: http://www.tiobe.com/index.php/content/ ... index.html

Danny

Hi Danny,

I got following answer from them:
Hi Sudip,

Thanks for your feedback on our TIOBE index. I just ran a calculation for Harbour, but it would have been at position 207 of 212. This is too low to add it to our permanent monitoring list. Please notify us again as soon as you think Harbour has gained considerable popularity.

Regards,

Paul
But, as per my bad experience with Harbour developers, I don't want to post it into the Harbour forum.

I shall be happy, if anybody will post it in Harbour forum.

Thanks.

Sudip

Hi Sudip,

Maybe it's irrelevant to post the result of your inquiry to HB forum most especially Harbour ranks at DESCEND( top20 ). At least we've got an honest answer. On the contrary most on the lists are commercial. I think that TIOBE needs to classify the ranking between open source and commercial software. On the contrary Harbour were stable enough to compete with the commercial software. So regardless of TIOBE's ranking my conviction never fades at all.

Combining Harbour, HMG and HMGEx does the job. What I mean in combining HMG and HMGEx is through EXECUTE File command so both HMG can run together at least on separate window. Well I failed to compile HMGEx with mingw32. Maybe not a brilliant idea but it served my requirement.

Thanks and regards,

Danny
