Hi All,

The subject of this message is the title of an interesting article that explains (like a bunch of others) the new strategy on applications development for Windows 8.

This new strategy is based on... HTML5 and javaScript!

Well... apparently someone told the king that he was naked

So... now is official and definitive: The new development platform is the HTML5/JavaScript based web browser, meaning that the underlying operating system had become IRRELEVANT, meaning that Windows became irrelevant.

Then... fasten your seatbelts... the time is running...

You always have the option to do a more heavier use of server code (PHP).

The PHP code is not downloaded to the client machine.

Only the things you want (usually, user interface logic (HTML+JavaScript)) will do, keeping most of your code, hidden in your server.

Moreover, the business model is changing.

As our applications become 'Internet-enabled', allowing customers to access their data from any kind of 'Internet-connected' devices, they need more support, since they require a hosting service and a more dedicate maintenance, so, the idea of selling the software as a service, become more reasonable and 'understandable' by the users.

Think about this: People must pay to access the Internet and to keep a site online, so, it becomes reasonable, to pay to keep an Internet application running online...

It took at least 3 versions of windows to go from DOS to a native GUi desktop. Win 3, Win 95, and Win 98.
So expect at least 3 versions of windows to go from an independent desktop to a browser centric GUI.

Anyway I seriously doubt Windows will give their desktop market to Linux.

And,...

There will be allways a bunch of people ( mostly developpers, designers ... ) who wont like their data be hosted on a foreign location for obvious security reasons.

On the other side: javascript is an interpreter module in borwsers, and harbour is a pcode machine. Who says in the future we can't use harbour as client side scripting languaje ? Only our own lack of imagination as developpers...

Hola Roberto, Hola a Todos:
Google propone una vieja tecnologia, ella es una maquina cliente y un servidor corriendo la aplicacion. ahora se llama computacion en la nube (cloud computing)
y Microsoft no quiere quedarse atras, el tema es seguir vendiendo.
Hay que ver si la mazas siguen al profeta.
Todavia recuerdo correr CP-M y generar mis primeros programas en el y grabandolos en Dattaset.. jaja
