One month of HMG.4

Post by Roberto Lopez »

Hi All,

One month ago, I've registered the new HMG project at SourceForge.

My first thinking was that no so much people could be interested on it and that it could be an experimental project for a long time, but reality changed my mind...

The facts and numbers of the project are really amazing:

- More than 900 downloads from 58 different countries.

- The team member count reached 11 developers.

- Working releases for Windows, Linux and OSX.

- Support (from basic to complete) for 24 HMG controls, print system and the most important functions.

- Extensions for various controls.

All these achievements were possible because the passionate work of all the team members, the great help of Pritpal Bedi (HBQT creator), the Harbour team (that gave us a wonderful compiler) and finally the man that created this forum and worked on HMG.4 more than any other person (even than me :) ): Rathinagiri.

Thanks to all.
Regards/Saludos,

Roberto

It is really great going Roberto.

Let us thrive to achieve our goals.

We are just marching on the path created by a good great leader. :)
East or West HMG is the Best.
South or North HMG is worth.
...the possibilities are endless.

Wow. I understand your thrill. I think the greatest achievement of a programmer is when he can build something for other programmers to use.

I hope I can download HMG.4 today to take a peek. This weekend I was brushing up my Clipper knowledge, I want to start by simple console stuff with Harbour before taking the adult steps in GUI. I found Harbour's OOP to be very natural. I had some Clipper 87 (!) library of my own, OOP (not sure what I used.. maybe Class(y)..) and the syntax is just the same. Good!

Hi Roberto,

I never used all the controls in HMG. I use menu, buttons, textbox (for char, numeric and date variables), checkbox (for .t./.f.), combobox (for single dimensional arrays) and last but not least the versatile Grid control.

When doing something for HMG 4, I wondered how huge our HMG project is! Over a period of its life time, ( I am seeing HMG from 0.40) HMG is being emerged as a fantastic tool for creating robust applications by simplifying and hiding the GUI hurdles to the programmer. Until HMG 3.0, one need not know about window handles of win32 API to write HMG applications.

I am happy that it continues in HMG 4, making things simple, efficient and effective.
