Yes, franco, it is safe as gmail does all the scanning and even send the email to spam folder if it thinks so. One has to take it out from there.
Further you can not use the gmail smtp user and pass from any far off place (geographically) , as gmail marks it.
So I have advised my users to make a spare gmail a/c and use those credentials, for my billing program which send o/s amount emails to all debtors.

I made the tests with gmail activating the less secure option in the gmail account, Allow less secure applications: ON, as a message e-mail no problem will be used only for my systems, with CDO was simple does not use dll and works in win32 and win64
