Creating or modifying .dbfs

Post by gfrae »

Is there an HMG module for creating, modifying etc. .dbfs or have they to be hard coded within .prgs? I have a number of former .dbfs from Clipper that I need to retain the data.

I must admit that I haven't tried the STRU module (I keep an old copy of dBase that I use to manipulate dbf files!), but you could always try loading the standard IDE program and selecting the "Tables" tab, which allows you to Browse, Modify Structure, Etc.
I suspect that it's not nearly as comprehensive or as flexible as STRU, but it might also just be another option that would allow you to do what you want. Good luck!

DBA also may be helpful to you.

DBA exists also in the forum and we have also DBU by Rathinagiri.

Sadly, search feature of forum doesn't support short words to search :(

Dear Esgici,

Thank you very much for your DBA advice.
I searched for many hours for a program to change the database structures.
I downloaded at least 6 programs that don't work or make a mess of the file.
Even the old Dbase III doesn't accept half of my dbf files
DBA works ! Thank you!

You are welcome aboard dear Wim :)

Thanks to your nice words :)

Still be careful; after 2K problems, some radical modifications occured .dbf structure standards; in summary, after used ( open and edit data ) on a .dbf by a "modern" tools ( such as Harbour compiled your own prgs ), your .dbf may become unusable by old tools ( like dBase III or Clipper S'87 compiled prgs ).

IMHO the best way may be to abandon old tools ;)

Anyway, you are welcome to wonderful world of HMG 8-)

Happy HMG'ing :D
