Introducing Myself ...

Post by tbohon »

My name is Tom and I'm a professional software developer. I began my career in 1966 as a PCAM operator, transitioned to programmer then to analyst and then to lots of other things in the IT area. I am currently developing healthcare applications and interface systems for a non-profit hospital company. At one time or another I've used pretty much every 'common' language out there along with some that aren't widely used. I also taught Computer Science and Mathematics as an adjunct (part-time) faculty member at several local community colleges for 13 years.

I hold a BS in Mathematics, an MBA in Quantitative Methods and have done some post-graduate work in both statistical analysis and computer simulation.

Back in the 1990s I programmed several custom applications in Clipper 5.3 and was upset when that language faded into obscurity. Over the years I've tried other 'substitutes' but the pure simplicity of the Clipper language just wasn't there ... until HMG came onto my radar screen. I am digging into the documentation, trying the samples, making small 'do nothing' programs to test things out and having more fun programming than I've had for a long, long time.

I am looking forward to learning from everyone on this site and, some day soon, having enough knowledge of HMG to be able to contribute to the community.

Best,

Tom
