HMG versus Extended HMG

Post by CCH4CLIPPER »

Hi All

I understand that Extended HMG forked from HMG is 2005 just like xHarbour forked from Harbour.

Looking at a post by Grigori in one of the posts in the other forums, Extended HMG appears to be much more powerful.
Out of curiosity, why do you guys then stay with HMG ?

Simplicity, Stability, Originality, Adaptability, Portability.
East or West HMG is the Best.
South or North HMG is worth.
...the possibilities are endless.

Hello CCH

You have don't ask dangerous questions like this.

Before all HMG is a united community and there isn't any quarrel between them.

If you read "Welcome to the HMG Forum!" topic, Roberto wrote at 31 Jul 2008:

Simply we have different opinions about of what MiniGUI has to be. Thats all.

Everyone have the right of having their own opinion and everyone must respect this. Nobody have the right of saying "ONLY my opinion, my way is correct!".

For example, what is the meaning of "powerful" for a computer application ?

Reliability ?

Stability ?

Backward compatibility ?

Having always all new things ?

Possibly this list may be more long. But the reality is that "all goodness never been together" and priority sequence is relative.

In short, "guys stay with HMG" are here because this is their preference.

Moreover, preference of anyone must don't effect you. Look, see, analyze, test and build your own decision yourself.

Best Regards

Hi Escigi/Rathinagari

I don't agree that this is a dangerous question. From my exposure to HMG thus far, it has a lot of potential and so has Extended HMG.
But there are detractors from HWGUI saying that HMG is not stable etc.

I basically don't want to invest a lot of time to find out that HMG is not I want. Time, unfortunately is not our friend

BTW, I like HMG as I actually have no problems is understanding the sample codes and that has guided me tremendously.

It is also great to see passionate & very helpful users from this forum :D

IMHO, I personally had implemented HMG Applications in real life situations for the past 2 years. One of them is an ERP like application integrating accounting, inventories, manufacturing, order processing, POST and what not!? I had used HMG in the front end and MySQL as the back end.

To me, it is stable.

Hi Rathinagari

Great ! That's what I like to hear :D

So I 'll stick with HMG for the time being and push it to its limits.

FYI, I mainly used sql2000/2005 & DBFCDX for my Win32 apps and have used MySql in a Ruby on Rails web-based CRM.

Thanks a lot.

With the possibility of HBTIP, now we can access a MySQL database from remote server thru web, using a simple php script. :) I am working with two projects on that now.

Dear CCH

As I said in previous post, if someones say "ONLY my opinion, my way is correct!", others commences to repeat this speech. After that "your way is incorrect, bad, worst!". And a discussion in that manner is only vainly and never arrive positive, correct and useful results. This is only quarrel and war. The danger that I want to point was that.
But there are "someones" saying that HMG is not stable etc.
Someone looks at a glass and says "half of glass is empty" and another one say "half of glass is full". This is our nature, looking at first to empty or full, negative or positive.

Download page of HMG in SourceForge include two versions in general: Last version labeled with "Test" and previous version labeled with "Stable". Someone may be seen this labels and assume "Test" as "Non Stable". This is possible and is only a opinion. We have instead of to trust opinion of anyone, as I said in previous post, building our own decision by ourself.
It is also great to see passionate & very helpful users from this forum :D
You are become one of them in very short time :)
