Re: Program writing

Quite an intersting range of writers being used, then!
I use Notepad++ for doing HTML programming and some bits of Kindle conversions (which I do quite a bit of). But I will certainly have a look at some of the others mentioned.

And I can recommend PFE32: and it's free!

Program writing

As a matter of interest, what do most people use for programming? Personally, I started with PFE, then PFE32 which I use now. I have found it very good, although the ability to execut a DOS command and capture output into a file doesn't seem to work. Templar

Re: Debugger (I think)

So I suppose the only possibility is that there is something somewhere in one of the modules triggering the compiler to compile in one way rather than another. Any suggestions what that might be? I cna try compiling leaving out some modules, but as many of them interact, that is tricky without getti...

Re: Debugger (I think)

AH, that's very useful about the error messages. Thanks for that.
No, I have never had #include "hmg.ch" is any programs. I just tried doing that and it didn't make any difference. Yes I always compile them the same way, using the HMG desktop and hitting "F5"!

Re: Debugger (I think)

Try to display characters 204, 205, 185 every few lines in the program and check at what point the character set is swapped. #request, #include are the same in both prg? Do you run both programs as standalone exe or do you run exe from the other? It doesn't change during the program. Right from the...

Re: Debugger (I think)

Hold on... Some progress I tried insterting these lines into each program: @5,3 say "Chr 205 is "+chr(205) @7,3 say "Chr 204 is "+chr(204) @9,3 say "Chr 185 is "+chr(185) and the results are as shown on Screens C and D attached. Something is definitely changing the character set, although it isn't a...

Re: Debugger (I think)

This has become stranger and stranger! Having been away from it for a while, I have now come back. The first 70 lines of the program set variables, draw screens and check everything is ok. When I run the program, I end up with the screen looking like SreenA below: funny squiggles and wrong character...

Re: FREAD / FWRITE

Thanks. 've played around some more and now it's working fine, so I'm puzled as to why it wasn't before. Probably just my stupidity (most problems in my life are caused by that!) :)

FREAD / FWRITE

Anybodye else playing about with these? I have spent a very frustrating today trying to get an FWRITE to work and failed completely. It looks ok, opens ok, returns the correct value and even updates the file date/time. But it hasn't actually written new values. The only way round seems to be to FERA...
